Gauteng South Region
About Gauteng South Region
Our home away from home are situated close to the paediatric oncology wards. In Gauteng South we have a house in Saxonwold , which can accommodate 9 children and 9 caregivers and that is situated close to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Donald Gordon. We have two houses in Diepkloof that also accommodates 10 children and 10 caregivers. These houses are situated close to Chris Hani Baragwanth Academic Hospital.
In order to keep our programs running we have an amazing team of people. Our house supervisors, Phindi and Zotha, together with Elisa, Princess, Felile and Anna ensure that our houses are well run and kept neat and tidy. Our dedicated driver Sabelo is committed to transporting the children to hospital on time and collected after their treatment. Our team of social workers that walk the journey with our families at Chris Hani Baragwaneth Academic Hospital is Lawrence and Ida and at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital is Mawethu and Nomvula. Our office co-ordinator Brenda and Fundraiser Lizelle help to run our regions’ general operation and offer support where needed.
In the past year:
With the help of our all our donors, during this past financial year (July 2020 – June 2021) we were able to provide:
4128 bed nights at our Saxonwold and Diepkloof Houses;
We were able to assist 4076 children, teenagers and their parents with transport funds to the value of R164 602.00;
Through the practical support we provide 129 carebags, more than 250 food parcels;
60 families received financial bereavement support.
