Here’s how you can volunteer with CHOC:
We are honoured to have a team of extraordinary volunteers who play a pivotal role in our programmes and events across South Africa. By joining us, you become an integral part of our mission to keeping hope alive for children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer or a life-threatening blood disorder and their families.
Together, let’s shape a brighter future for children and teenagers, regardless of their circumstances. To become a volunteer all you need to do is either complete the online form or download and fill out the application form.
Hospital Volunteer
Someone who gives of his/her time to CHOC free of charge in the hospitals, however without direct contact or interaction with the children.
House Volunteers
Someone who gives of his/her time to CHOC free of charge in a CHOC House/Lodge without direct contact or interaction with the children or as a trained volunteer with direct contact or interaction with the parents and /or children.
Ward Volunteer
Someone who underwent CHOC volunteer training and who has been approved to work in the wards with the children and families.
Regional Committee
Someone who serves on the Regional Parent Committee
Parent supporting parent volunteer
A parent whose child did/did not survive childhood cancer or life-threatening blood disorders, who has been trained and approved by CHOC to support newly diagnosed parents.
Fundraising support volunteers
Volunteers who assist and support BDU, RMs and/or FRs with fundraising by introducing them to their networks and other forms of fundraising opportunities.
Event support volunteers
Volunteers who assist BDU, RMs and/or FRs with events (Pre, during and post events); as well as assist by sourcing needs for the events.
Cow volunteers
Volunteers who signed up to be Cows and who are on The Cows™ database.
Young Calves
Volunteers who signed up to be calves as part of the The Cows™ and who are on The Cows™ database.
Admin volunteers
Volunteers who assist HO, Regions and Branches with administrative duties.
CHOC Speakers
A volunteer or a survivor who has been trained in Presentation Skills, who knows CHOC and CHOC Programmes to speak at events, in the media and who has been approved by BDU and the RMs to speak on behalf of CHOC.
Young Adult Volunteers
Gauteng South Only): Young adults who meet on a weekend and act as ward volunteers; however in an organized group.
SOLID
Survivors of childhood cancer and life-threatening blood disorders.
Community Service
School learners who need to do community hours and who volunteer for CHOC (non-patient contact).
Interns
Students who volunteer internship to gain hours in order to complete their studies.
Corporate Volunteers
Staff from Corporates who give of their expertise and/or time as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility to NGOs free of charge.
Garden
“Garden Fairies” assist the CHOC Houses/Lodges to beautify and maintain the gardens.
